Future World Tourism Issues 1. Safety and Security in Tourism -this will be a great challenge for tourism policy and planning for many years to come. More than any other economic activity, the success or failure of a tourism destination depends on being able to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors. - with the eventa like 9/11, many countries has adopted international and national policies to counteract terrorism. -crimes against tourists such as robbery, murder, and kidnapping are also important concerns for destination planners. 2 2. The Impact of the World's Economy on Tourism - with a flourishing economy, more people will travel. The more money you have, the bigger the chances of traveling. - related to world economy is population growth. If the economies of China, India, USA, Indonesia, and Brazil will improve, tourism will grow. 3. Managing Sustainable Tourism in a Responsible Manner - measures to educate tourism agencies, the host communities, and travelers about sustainable tourism must be continued as world population grows. rspect for our natural and built environments will be the country's legacy for future generations. - A sustainable Tourism not only has the potential to have such a positive impact on environmental restoration but also local economies. 4. Tourism Policy and Strategic Planning - there will be greater efforts toward partnership of the private and public sectors to alleviate poverty, develop policies to combat the negative impacts on tourism and support the economic, sociocultural and environmental contributions of tourism to the world. - A tourism destination is multifunctional and attracts different market segments with different needs and expectations. Therefore, there is a need for strategic planning in order to attract new investors, to build a smart development and distribute benefits for local stakeholders and especially local inhabitants. 5. Using E-commerce Tools in Tourism - more than 50% of travelers in US use the Internet in planning their travel and vacations. And this is growing globally. - E-commerce has greatly impacted the travel and tourism industry by making it easier for customers to plan and book their trips. Online booking platforms and travel websites have made it simpler for customers to compare prices, destinations, and amenities, all in one place. 6. Tourism Education and Training - new trends include the collaboration between tourism agencies and educators of tourism colleges and universities to address the changing needs of the industry. - a highly educated workforce is needed due to the continued growth and success of the global tourism industry. 7. Emerging Tourism Markets China and India are two emerging tourist markets in the near future. Russia could also become a country generating and receiving tourists in the future. - in terms of arrivals and tourist receipts, Europe continues to account for one- half of the world's tourism market. - the UAE will be an emerging tourism market. Gabon, Africa is another emerging market as they are an oil- rich country. South America could also emerge as a tourism market in the future. 8. Quality Tourism Products and Experiences - tourists demand greater variety, flexibility, and quality in their tourism products. Space Tourism - newest tourism product. A space trip package costs 20M USD. Dennis Tito became the very first tourist to reach outer space in 2001. Volunteer Vacations - vacation to help less fortunate people or support humanitarian cause. 9. Partnership and Strategic Alliances in Tourism - new partnership are occurring such as the partnership between UNTWO and the Meeting on Nov. 28, 2006 in which the United Nations Tourism Satellite Account willl measure the global economic contribution of the meeting industry. - through strategic alliances, the tourism industry can maximize it's use of outscoring particularly in the areas of cost effectiveness, cost reduction, and brand loyalty Competition - the use of cooperation and competition in the available opportunities are unlimited, like awarding of points to be used for other transactions. 10. Impacts of Health Issues in Tourism - most travelers avoid areas that have high health risks. Disease spread more rapidly due to travel particularly through international aviation. - some diseases causing reduced are Flu, Virus, AIDS, SARS, foot and mouth disease (FMD) 11. Effects of Natural Disasters on Tourism Natural disasters have devastating impacts on the tourism Industry. People avoid travel to affected areas. - Major storms such as Hurricane Katrina (US) and tsunami in Phuket, Thailand, caused a mass disruptions in domestic and international tourism. 12. Climate Change and Tourism - Global warming is a growing concern for travelers. The world's ecosystem is degraded by humans at an unsustainable rate that cause irreversible damage to the planet -the environment is the life support system for us and for our economy we depend on clean air water and a stable climate that's right without a stable climate we can't have a prosperous economy. climate change is all already having serious impacts on our environment and economy some areas will sometimes see too much water other areas won't get enough temperature increases will affect plants and animals driving some towards extinction. all these events will have a high personal and economic cost we need to act on climate change if we want a healthy environment and a healthy economy the consequences of not acting now could Thank you for listening!
