**Cape town presentation** **History** The first people to live in the region were ancestors of the African Khoisan people. In 1652 traders from the Netherlands founded a settlement on the site. Cape Town became an important supply station on the sea route to India. Between 1795-1806 the Dutch and the British fought for control over the city. Between 1806-1810 Cape Town was a British colony before it became a part of the union of South Africa. The city got city status in 1840. In 1965 The black district Six in the centre of the city was declared a white area, the population (approximately 60,000) was forcibly moved to the plain area north of the city, and the district was razed. **Facts** Cape Town is one of three capitals in South Africa and the second largest city in the country after Johannesburg. It is the legislative capital and the capital of the Western Cape province. The city covers an area of 300 square kilometres. The city is one of South Africa's most important industry centres. The city\'s factories make food, wine, clothing, plastics, and leather goods. Other main industries include ship repair and tourism. Cape Town is also a seaport. Because it was the site of the first European settlement in South Africa, Cape Town is known as the country's "mother city." **Cape town stadium** The Cape Town Stadium is a football stadium built for the 2010 World Cup. Construction started in 2007 and finished on December 14, 2009. It was one of 10 stadiums used in the 2010 World Cup and has a capacity of 69,070 people. The stadium has later been used for rugby, tennis, football, and concerts. Because of sponsorship, it has been called the DHL stadium since 2021. Since 2023 it has been the home stadium for Western Province Rugby. **Table Mountain** Table Mountain is a mountain south of Cape Town and is known for its flat top. From the mountain, you get a beautiful view of Cape Town and the Atlantic Ocean. On the west side of the mountain, there is a cableway. You can also walk up the mountain. The highest point is 1084 meters. Approximately 4.2 million tourists visit the mountain every year. Table Mountain and its surroundings are recognized as a World Heritage Site due to its unique nature and cultural significance. The mountain has 8,200 plant species and a rich wildlife. **Kirstenbosch** Kirstenbosch is one of the world's largest botanical gardens. It is located on the eastern side of Table Mountain and is one of nine national botanical gardens in South Africa. The garden contains more than 7,000 plant species, mostly South African plants. In the park, it grows flowering plants like protea, heather, and cycads. Kirstenbosch covers an area of about 2 square miles. **Victoria & Alfred waterfront** Victoria & Alfred waterfront is one of the most visited tourist attractions in South Africa. The harbour is full of stores and other attractions. The waterfront is named after Prince Alfred and Queen Victoria. The V&A waterfront has 450+ shops, 13 hotels, 7 museums, 101 entertainment activities, 80+ places to eat and 22 historical landmarks. Some of the most popular attractions is the two oceans aquarium, clock tower and Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa. Tourists can also take a boat trip to Robben Island.
