Bloodborne Pathogens Policy Name: 6-SOP-100 Effective Date:2/26/2024 Version:7.0 FSMA:No Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to identify and provide guidelines when there is exposure to blood or other potential infectious materials (OPIM). This policy is written to comply with Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) Bloodborne Pathogen Policy 29 CFR 1910.1030 Policy: Exposures within Family Fresh Pack (FFP) which are covered by the Bloodborne Pathogen Policy 29 CFR 1910.1030 are limited to:  Emergency treatment for Injuries  Clean-up of the accident site/area  Treatment and disposal of potentially infections materials  Employees on a First Aid /CPR team will be trained on Bloodborne Pathogen standards and universal protection. Control/Work Practices to Reduce On-The-Job Risk: Controls used to reduce the risk of exposure to Bloodborne pathogens include:  A team that has been trained in First Aid /CPR/Blood borne pathogen response, however if a member on the team is not is not present, a contact list is available next to the first aid cabinet.  Providing puncture-resistant sharps containers for safe disposal of glass and needles.  Emphasis of the importance of proper hand-washing techniques not only as a control in prevention of Bloodborne Pathogen contamination but also because of the quality issues related to our products.  Providing and implementing of the following procedures for cleanup of accident sites and decontamination of potentially infectious waste.  There is a Bloodborne Pathogen kit located near the First Aid cabinets. This kit contains a Biohazard plastic bag. Bandages, gauze, etc. should be placed in the bag. No blood-soaked materials are to be disposed of with other refuse.  All equipment and environmental surfaces shall be cleaned after contact with blood or other potentially hazardous materials  Decontamination is accomplished with a 200 ppm chlorine solution as needed. Training: Blood borne Pathogen training shall include:  Types of diseases covered by this standard and how the diseases are transmitted.  Personal protection against Bloodborne Pathogens. New employees shall receive awareness training as part of the new-hire safety orientation program. Vaccinations: There are no current situations where an employee could reasonably be expected to have an exposure on the average of once monthly or more. However, all employees identified as “affected” based on this policy have been given the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series at no cost. If an employee identified as “affected” based on this policy declines this opportunity, a signed declination form will be kept on file. Post-Exposure Evaluation/Treatment: All employees, not just those specifically covered under this standard, which assist with an in-plant medical emergency and as a result, are exposed to blood or other body fluids without protection, may request a medical evaluation. FFP will provide the treating physician with information regarding the exposure and will provide the evaluation at no charge to the employee. The employee will also be provided with the opportunity to receive a post-exposure Hepatitis B vaccination at no cost. Record keeping: The employer shall maintain an accurate record of all employee exposure measurements according to 29 CFR 1910.95(m) and OSHA 300 Log and 301 form.
