Blood physiology By Dr Eman.i. elgizawy Assistant professor of physiology department Blood Definitio n Blood is one type of connective tissue CT ( fluid CT). Functions Of the Blood:- 1. Constitutive function:- ( t he plasma‫(ﻣﻜﻮﻥ‬ constitutes 5% of the body weight. 2. Transport function ) Respiratory gases ‫ﻭﺳﻴﻠﻪ ﻧﻘﻞ‬ Nutrients. waste products. Vitamins, hormones and enzymes. 3. Defensive functions:-by: WBCs ‫ﺩﻓﺎﻋﻴﻪ‬ 4. Haemostatic functions: - to stop bleeding and‫ﺗﺠﻠﻂ‬ formation of blood clots. 5. Homeostatic function:- It regulates the following ‫ﺗﻮﺍﺯﻥ‬ body functions:- Body temperature. Body water. The arterial blood pressure. The acid base balance. Plasma Proteins The most important plasma proteins are Albumin 4- 4.5 gm% Globulin 2- 2.5 gm% Fibrinogen Prothrombin Site of synthesis Functions of Plasma Proteins: General functions Of Plasma Proteins:- 1. Nutrition They supply the body with amino-: ‫ﺗﻐﺬﻳﻪ‬ acids during starvation. 2. Buffering action:-they share in ‫ﻣﻌﺎﺩﻟﻪ‬ maintenance the pH of the body constant. 3. Carriers: they circulate in the blood- ‫ﺣﻮﺍﻣﻞ‬ carrying minerals, vitamins and hormones. Specific functions of the Plasma proteions: 1. Albumin is responsible for the osmotic pressure of the blood. Globulins and fibrinogens are responsible for the viscosity of the blood ‫ﻟﺰﻭﺟﻪ‬ No pain no gain
