Blocked Wells Viewer This page explains how to use the Blocked Wells Viewer dialog box to display multiple blocked wells for quality control. For a user-defined number of wells, you can display two different logs simultaneously, which are color coded by a third. This gives you the ability to quality-control the consistency of interpretations between the wells, check that zonation is correct, and to ensure that the wells have been imported correctly. To prepare to display blocked wells, click the required Blocked well data object in the Data tree and then select Multi-well viewer from the Task pane. The Blocked Wells Viewer dialog box opens, as shown in the following figure. Blocked Wells Viewer dialog box Using the Blocked Wells Viewer Dialog Box The Blocked Wells Viewer dialog box is divided into two main parts: A graphical view, with zoom and pan controls and icon button(s) A tab with options for controlling the display of blocked wells The settings and their effect on the graphical view are described in the following sections. Well Selection The top part of the Display tab is divided into selection lists for fence diagrams and wells, and a well ordering list. The Fences area lists any Fence diagrams contained in the Intersections folder. If you select a fence diagram from the list, the wells along this fence are selected automatically and ordered in the well list below. Select the Wells filter check box to define and apply a filter to the wells which are available for display. Click the drop-down list to open a selection pane from which you can filter the available wells; alternatively, click the Advanced data selector button to open the Data Selector dialog box and select an RMS Data Explorer collection (see also RMS Data Explorer Collections). Select the wells you want to display from the list of available wells. Up to 25 wells can be shown in the log display simultaneously. To change the order in which the wells are displayed, select a well in the Ordering list and use the up and down arrows to move it in the list. After making changes in the Ordering list, click the Update button to update the graphic display. The Reverse button reverses the order. You can also display a well twice, or more often, by simply duplicating it in the Ordering list, clicking the Duplicate button. If you deselect the well in the Blocked wells well list, both versions are removed from the display. Depth Mode Select the required depth mode from the Depth mode list. The modes available are: True vertical depth (TVD) Along relative well path Cell count Simbox depth (see Setting Simbox Thicknesses) The log display depth axis is updated to match the selected mode. Log Selection For each well, you can display a maximum of three logs at the same time, where two logs will be placed to the sides of the well and a third represented in colors as background (as illustrated in the preceding figure). The color table for the log is set in the blocked well's Visual Settings dialog box, opened from the Visual settings button or from the blocked well's right-click menu (see Blocked Wells Visual Settings). Note Apply your settings before changing the color table, as this will reset the display. Select the logs and where to display them from the Display logs lists. You can display the log curves with inverted scales, by selecting the appropriate Flip range check box(es). If your raw well logs include a lot of missing values, you can improve the visualization by selecting the Ignore undef. values check box. This fills undefined values by interpolating from adjacent defined values. Zooming and Panning You can zoom or pan the whole graphics display by dragging the Zoom or Pan wheel with the left mouse button. Alternatively, you can zoom or pan an individual log: To zoom, drag on the depth axis of one log using the left mouse button. To pan in a vertical direction, drag using the right mouse button just to the left of the log's depth axis. The value scale for individual wells can be adjusted by dragging on the bottom value axis using the left mouse button. A lateral pan (to compare well log patterns between non-adjacent wells) can be achieved by dragging using the right mouse button on the bottom value axis. To reset the view to its original size, click the Reset view icon button . Zone Borders and Flattening You can display the zone borders, by selecting the Draw borders check box in the Zones area. If you select the Join borders check box, the zone borders in the displayed wells are connected together. The Flatten options below allow you to display all wells adjusted to selected zone borders. This is a visual aid, and allows you to align multiple wells automatically at the top and/or bottom of the display, instead of having to zoom and pan the wells individually. For example, you can align wells by zone, or by depth (depending on the Depth mode). To flatten the well display: Select whether to flatten by Depth or Zone. Select the Reference. This can be a single reference at the top, a single reference at the bottom, or both top and bottom references. For the top and/or base (depending on your Reference selection), either: Enter a depth value, when flattening by base, or Select the required zone from the drop-down list, when flattening by zone. Click the Flatten button , located near the upper-right of the graphic display area. The zone border that you select as the reference is displayed at the top of the log display, for all displayed wells. The display is also scaled to display the chosen zone, and the vertical scale is determined by the thickest zone interval of the displayed wells. Well Plot Width You can set the well plot width using either Auto or Manual mode: In Auto mode, the well plots are automatically scaled so that all the selected wells fit within the graphic display area width. In Manual mode, you can specify the width and spacing of the well plots. If this means that all the wells do not fit within the display area, a scroll bar is displayed at the bottom of the display area and you can scroll horizontally. The Setup options are used to store and retrieve selections and visual settings. You can create multiple setups, and simply select the required one from the drop-down list to change the dialog box settings. To update the current setup with any adjusted settings, click Apply setup. To create a new setup, click Duplicate to copy the current settings, enter a name for the new setup, make the required selections and settings, and click Apply setup. You can remove the current setup by clicking Remove.
