Atomic Bonding and Lewis Dot Structure Prepared by: Megan P. Gamet Lewis Dot Structure Lewis dot structures are simplified drawings of how valence electrons are arranged around atoms in a molecule. They also illustrate bonds between elements in a molecule. Lewis dot structures use the "Octet Rule. Noble Gases The noble gases are so named because they rarely react with other elements. Helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon and radon atoms all have a full outer valence shell of electrons, which makes them quite unreactive. IONIC BONDING Ionic bond, type of linkage formed from the electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged ions in a chemical compound. Such a bond forms when the valence (outermost) electrons of one atom are transferred permanently to another atom. Steps of Drawing Lewis Dot Structure Lewis Dot Structure of Ionic Bonds 1. MgO 5.
