## Antenatal Care (ANC) Antenatal Care (ANC) is a pregnancy checkup conducted by a doctor or midwife to optimize the mental and physical health of pregnant women. Antenatal Care (ANC) is a pregnancy checkup process provided by healthcare professionals to pregnant women to optimize their physical and mental health. It is expected that pregnant women will be able to cope with childbirth, postpartum period, and breastfeeding until their reproductive health returns to normal (Susanti & Ulpawati, 2022). ### 2.1.1 Antenatal Care Objectives 1. **General Objective**: To prepare both physically and mentally the mother and fetus during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period to ensure healthy mother and fetus. 2. **Specific Objective**: * Identify and manage potential illnesses during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum period. * Identify and treat any potential illness as early as possible. * Reduce the rate of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. * Provide advice on daily life, family planning, pregnancy, postpartum period, and breastfeeding. ### 2.1.2 Antenatal Care Locations 1. Community Centers (Public Health Centers, Polindes, and Posyandu) 2. Public/Private Hospitals 3. Maternity Hospitals 4. Private Practice (Midwife and Doctor). ### 2.1.3 Antenatal Care Services - Examinations Performed During Antenatal Care Visits(10T) (Ministry of Health RI , 2023): * Weight and height measurement. * Blood pressure measurement. * Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measurement. * Fundal height measurement (fundus uteri). * Fetal presentation and fetal heart rate determination. * Tetanus immunization status screening and administration of tetanus diphtheria (Td) immunization if needed. * Iron supplementation tablet administration with a minimum of 90 tablets during pregnancy. * Laboratory tests: pregnancy test, hemoglobin level, blood type, triple elimination test (HIV, syphilis, and Hepatitis B) and malaria test in endemic areas. Other tests can be performed as indicated: urine protein, random blood sugar, sputum acid-fast bacillus (AFB), leprosy, malaria in non-endemic areas, stool examination for parasitic infections, complete blood count to detect thalassemia, and other examinations. * Case management based on competency. * Counseling to provide information related to: examination results, care according to gestational age and maternal age, maternal nutrition, mental preparedness, identifying pregnancy warning signs, childbirth and postpartum period, childbirth preparation, contraception, postpartum period care, newborn care, early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding. * According to the World Health Organization, a minimum of 4 visits: 1 visit during the first trimester (14 weeks), 1 visit during the second trimester (14-28 weeks), 2 visits during the third trimester (28-26 weeks or >36 weeks) (Susanti & Ulpawati, 2022). * According to the Mother and Child Health Book, ANC should be performed at least 6 times during pregnancy: 1 doctor visit during the first trimester until 12 weeks, 2 visits during the second trimester between 12 weeks and 24 weeks, 3 visits during the third trimester above 24 weeks up to 40 weeks (with one of them being a doctor visit) (Ministry of Health RI, 2023). * According the Ministry of Health RI (2024), ANCshould be performed at least 6 times during pregnancy 2 visits during the first trimester (0-12 weeks), 1 visit during the second trimester (>12 weeks-24 weeks), and 3 visits during the third trimester (>24 weeks until delivery) and a minimum of two visits by a doctor during the first visit in the first trimester and the fifth visit in the third trimester.
