CI/CP-2/1.12 Passenger Information System PASSENGER INFORMATION SYSTEM ( PIS ) INTRODUCTION- The system which provides train related information’s to the passengers are known as Passenger Information System (PIS). This is an automated system which provides the information with the help of audio-visual mediums. Following are related to the PIS--- 1. Interactive Voice Response System ( IVRS) 2. Pre-recorded Announcement & Auto announcement System 3. Train Indicating Board ( TIB ) 4. Coach Guidance System ( Coach Guidance Display Board) 5. Electronic Digital Charting System ( EDCS) 6. Close Circuit Television ( CCTV) 7. Master Slave Clock 8. Online train running information system 9. Touch Screen Based Enquiry ( TSBE ) 10. Passenger Operated Enquiry Terminal ( POET ) 11. Web NTES. 1. Interactive Voice Response System ( IVRS)- This is a technical system giving the information’s of train running, current status of PNR , Helpline number 139 for various services like Safety/Security assistance for passengers during travel etc. This is centralized connected with Database and controlled by Division, Headquarter with the help of CRIS or through NTES servers. 2. Pre-recorded Announcement/Auto announcement System- It is an IVRS system generally provided as standalone system to give the information to public on PSTN ( Public Switched Telephone Network) either for train running information or to work as Announcement system at platform with suitable interface to Public Address System. 99 3. Train Indicating Board ( TIB )- It is a display device which gives the information regarding running of train , Arrival/Departure timing, and platform number etc. The system is either operated locally at a particular station or can be fed from central location. They are mainly provided at platform and Public utility location. 4. Coach Guidance System ( Coach Guidance Display Board)- It is a display device which indicates the position of each coach from engine with description of train number and coach position. 5. Electronic Digital Charting System ( EDCS)- This is an another step to enhance the amenity towards passenger. EDCS is a digital mode of charting system available on big stations. In this the chart directly displayed on monitor through telesignal. The display shows the chart of different trains in sequence. 6. Close Circuit Television ( CCTV )- Now a days CCTV is an important provision at any public place like commercial venue, Airports, Offices etc. for safety and security. Railway too is a sensitive place as per safety and security. So railway installed CCTV at various places like platform, booking area , reservation area , Foot over bridges , Commencement and Exit areas , Engines etc. This also helps to find out the illegal/doubtful activities like theft , dacoity , Loot etc. 7. Master Slave Clock- It’s a programmed watch which is uniformly controlled all another watches working in railway premises. 8. Online train running information system- Passenger /Public can access this system through PSTN network or through Website. 9. Touch Screen Based Enquiry ( TSBE )- Under this system , computers are connected to PRS are installed at reservation office/platforms through which information regarding status and availability of reservation is provided to passengers. On feeding the PNR number , information regarding status and by 100 feeding the Train number, Date, and names of stations, information about availability is obtained by the passenger. 10. Passenger Operated Enquiry Terminal ( POET )- a) POET is a passenger amenity provided at important stations/counters. b) This is user friendly and public can access easily for getting information. c) Users can access availability and current status of a PNR. d) Passenger need not to go to counter for enquiries. e) POET will reduce the work load at enquiry counters. 11. Web NTES. Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) is the IT wing of Indian railways, has developed an enhanced new interface for the www.trainenquiry.com for dissemination of information to public. NTES developed by CRIS is the backend system which collects information about train running on near real time basis and disseminates information through various interfaces like nationwide unique number 139, website, face to face enquiry, mobile interfaces etc. The new interface is accessible through www.trainenquiry.com or www.enquiry.indrail.gov.in. CI/CP-2/1.13 Parcel Management System. PARCEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Parcel Management System Objectives: i. To increase the parcel traffic ii. Optimum utilization of parcel space. iii. To minimize the claims. iv. To bring the transparency in the system. 101 v. To curtail the corruption. vi. To improve the railways image with customer satisfaction. Main Features: 1. Direct capture of parcel weight electronically. 2. Universal windows for all destinations for booking. 3. Single window for weigh-ment and cash payment possible. 4. Advance unloading guidance about inward parcel from the system at destination. 5. Tracking parcel with help of barcode technology and through SMS. Modules 1. Forwarding note 2. Data Warehouse PLUTO  Tracking of parcels through online information of parcels on internet site www.parcel.indianrail.gov.in  Customer can track its parcel against PRR no. on the parcel receipt.  This tracking has been integrated with NTES system for expected time of arrival at destination.
