# What are the Different Shoreline Features? ## Island * An island is a piece of land surrounded by water on all sides. * There are many well-known islands in the world, such as Hawaii, Madagascar, Cyprus. * The continent of Australia is an island, but also a continent due to its large size. * A large group of islands close together is called an archipelago. * Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. ## Peninsula * The word "peninsula" comes from Latin words "paene" (almost) and "insula" (island). * A peninsula is a piece of land extending into the water, but connected to land on one side only. * Examples include Florida (USA), Sinai (Egypt), and the Arabian Peninsula. ## Cape * A cape is a piece of land jutting into the water. * The Cape of Good Hope in South Africa is a well-known cape. **Note:** The document includes images of various world maps illustrating these geographic features.
