The word "biology" is derived from the Greek words "bios" (meaning life) and "logos" (meaning "study"). Biology is the study of structure , function, growth, origin, evolution and distribution of living organisms and their environments. The organisms machine is organized at different levels, starting with the cell and ending with the entire organism (see Figure 1.1).
