# Lesson 11: Use Factors to find Equivalent Fractions When we divide a fraction, we are simplifying. We divide the numerator and denominator of a fraction by the same number. **Example:** $\frac{16}{8}$ Find the biggest number we can divide both the numerator and denominator by the same number. $\frac{16}{8} = \frac{16 \div 8}{8 \div 8} = \frac{2}{1} = 2$ $\frac{16}{8}$ and $\frac{2}{1}$ are equivalent.
