# Politics **Definition of Politics** Politics is defined as the act of managing affairs in a way that benefits society. In the Quran, it's stated that "the Israelites were ruled by their prophets," meaning prophets managed their affairs. There are two types of politics: legitimate and illegitimate. **Legitimate Politics** Legitimate politics, in the Islamic context, refers to the principles that govern the people. Ibn Aqil described it as actions that bring people closer to righteousness and further from corruption, without explicit divine revelation. Ibn Khaldun defined it as a way of running society according to religious rulings for the benefit of both this world and the hereafter. Politics is a crucial part of Islam, and there is no distinction between politics and religion in Islam. **Politics as a Duty in Islam** Contemporary political action is believed to be an obligatory duty for all Muslims. The verse in the Quran,"Those whom we establish in the earth, they establish prayer, give Zakat, command good and forbid evil, and for Allah is the end of affairs." emphasizes the obligation of righteous governance. Sheikh Said Hawwa argued that until Islamic rule is established, political action is obligatory on every Muslim. Promoting order, establishing a system, and doing anything needed to restore Islamic rule are considered political duties. **Islamic Political Science** Islamic political science is crucial for developing and applying religiously sound solutions to new and emerging problems. It seeks to establish rules and systems for managing the affairs of an Islamic state. This approach focuses on making decisions that align with Islamic law and core principles.
