# City Renovation **Industrial estates** are always separated from residential areas. **City renovation** involves: 1. Demolishing or renovating poor housing 2. Selling social housing 3. Constructing new-build and more expensive apartments; 4. Renovating streets and squares; 5. Converting old ports, industrial and railway sites into residential areas; 6. Realizing new construction on the edge of the city (Vinex location). The number of homes thus increased, and many neighbourhoods gained a better appearance, leading to rising house prices and the return of higher-income residents. This process is called gentrification in neighbourhoods close to the city center. # A Sustainable Future in Urban Regions For cities to offer a pleasant environment for living and working in the future, they need to be more sustainable. Cities should: * Discourage car use (cars cause pollution, noise congestion, and unsafe situations). * Promote alternatives like frequent bus, tram, and light rail connections, safe cycling, and walking. * Convert parking spaces to green spaces. * Plant more trees as they provide shade, cool the environment through evaporating water, and absorb water, helping prevent flooding. * Insulate older homes and install solar panels.
