# Aspects of Waves The document describes the characteristics of waves. ## Types of Waves * **Transverse Wave:** A type of wave where the oscillation of the medium is perpendicular to the direction of the wave's propagation. * **Longitudinal Wave:** A type of wave where the oscillation of the medium is parallel to the direction of the wave's propagation. ## Properties of Waves * **Pulse:** A single disturbance that travels through a medium that often is a single sine wave. * **Wavelength (λ):** The distance between two consecutive peaks or troughs of a wave. Measured in cm. * **Frequency (f):** The number of waves that pass a fixed point per unit of time. Measured in Hz (Hertz). * **Velocity (v):** The speed at which a wave travels. Measured in cm/sec. ## Relationships * The formula relating velocity, wavelength, and frequency is: $v = \lambda \times f$ ## Energy and Amplitude * Energy of a wave is related to its frequency and amplitude. * High energy waves have high frequency. * Low energy waves have low frequency. * High amplitude waves have high energy and are loud, whereas low amplitude waves have low energy and are quiet.
