# Animal Cell ## Organelles - **Nucleus:** The nucleus is the control center of the cell, containing the DNA. - **Nucleolus:** Within the nucleus, the nucleolus produces ribosomes. - **Lysosome:** A lysosome breaks down waste materials and cellular debris. - **DNA/Chromosomes:** Found within the nucleus, these contain the genetic material of the cell. - **Centrioles:** These are involved in cell division. - **Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum:** Part of the ER, smooth ER synthesizes lipids and steroids, detoxifies harmful substances, and stores calcium. - **Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum:** Part of the ER, rough ER synthesizes proteins and transports them throughout the cell. - **Ribosomes:** These are involved in protein synthesis. - **Cytoskeleton:** This provides structural support for the cell and helps to move organelles. - **Mitochondria:** These are the powerhouses of the cell, producing energy in the form of ATP. - **Cell Membrane:** This surrounds the cell and controls what enters and leaves. - **Cytoplasm:** The gel-like substance that surrounds the organelles. - **Golgi Body:** Processes and packages proteins and lipids. - **Vesicles:** These small sacs store and transport substances within the cell.
