# Fluorescence Microscopy Fluorescence microscopy permits the localization of specific cellular molecules, similar to immunocytochemistry. It uses specific antibodies conjugated (bound) to fluorescent molecules (known as fluorochromes). Fluorochromes "glow" against a dark background. Fluorochromes can be indirectly or directly associated with the cellular molecule. Multiple fluorochromes can be used simultaneously. Cells can be either fixed or living during the process.
