# The Universal Declaration of Human Rights The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) consists of an introduction and thirty articles that declare most human rights. The first and second articles highlight the general and inclusive nature of the declaration, summarizing key aspects from past years. The UDHR, released by the United Nations on December 10, 1948, provides a detailed list of human rights. It encompasses principles of civil, political, economic, social, agricultural rights, and individual freedom. ## Article 1 All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood. ## Article 2 Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.
