# Brand Activism Study Notes **8 Orders of Worth – Moral Outlook** This document outlines eight different perspectives on worth, each providing a moral outlook on how to judge others. **1. Inspired:** * **Definition:** Based on creativity, passion, and inspiration. * **Example:** Kanye West buying a house next to his ex-wife, even though she was harassing him. From an inspired perspective, the desire to be near his children demonstrates a desire to be a good father. **2. Domestic:** * **Definition:** Virtuous based on tradition, personal bond, and respect for hierarchy. * **Example:** Same-sex marriage and the opposition's view that it violates traditional marriage forms. **3. Fame:** * **Definition:** Public recognition and other's opinions. * **Example:** Celebrities endorsing politicians. Endorsements are valued because they place worth on the opinion of others, and the public. **4. Civic:** * **Definition:** Goodness based on rule of law, collective interest, and community well-being. * **Example:** Colin Kaepernick disrespecting the flag and national anthem. From a civic perspective, Kaepernick, who was passionate about Black people not being murdered, was willing to sacrifice his career. **5. Market:** * **Definition:** Fairness based on competition and free-market. * **Example:** Affordable housing and minimum wage. From a market perspective, affordable housing is not a good thing because it is minimum wage. **6. Industrial:** * **Definition:** Worthiness based on efficiency performance and profit. * **Example:** Jeff Bezos, where an email threatened declining profits if Jeff Bezos did not maintain his stance. **7. Green:** * **Definition:** Goodness and decency based on sustainability, and respect for the environment. * **Example:** Anything that harms the environment is considered wrong, and respecting and preserving the environment is considered good. **8. Project:** * **Definition:** Respects interconnectedness, network creation and expansion. * **Example:** Mark Zuckerberg arguing that invading people's privacy (Facebook/Instagram) is not bad because it allows people to connect with similar interests, expand friendship circles, and increase interconnectedness.
