It has been said that impressionism in music was adapted from Art Impressionism in music; impressionism is a musical style that focuses on the structure of music and uses sound to help the listener feel the moods. Impressionism in music also started and developed in France in the 19th th century. Impressionistic music may be described generally as having refinement, delicacy, and vagueness. Popular examples of impressionistic music are the works of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel of France. The famous works of his lifetime of compositions are “Bolero”, “La Valse”, “Miriors”, and etc. He died on December 28 at the age of 62 in Paris. Expressionism is a modernist movement that started in Germany at the beginning of the 20th th century and was initially an expression in painting and poetry. In relation to music, expressionism coveys true emotions in exaggeration through the application of atonality and dissonance or the melodic and harmonic formations and lack of agreement and consistency in music. One of the famous composers who applied this technique in composition was Arnold Schoenberg. PAGE 3 PAGE 4 PAGE 5 PAGE 1 ARNOLD SCHOENBERG Arnold Schoenberg was a great American composer born in Austria on September 13, 1874. On July 13, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, USA, he passed away. As a composer, his method of organizing his music was 12 different tones, which greatly influenced the modern technique and development in composition during that era. Arnold Schoenberg was also known for his radical sound of music. One of his most popular PAGE 2 Expressionist compositions is the Pierrot Lunaire. Electronic music is the process of creating music using computers in synthesizing or producing digital audio signals. Varese (1883-1965) is considered the father of electronic music. He is a French composer who spent most of his career and life in the United States of America. In Chance music, it is different. Chance music is also called aleatory music, derived from the Latin word alea, meaning "dice." We will create a found instrument out of what is around us and using chance methods to create music with our instrument. You will need one dice and something to write your score on.
