Summary
This document is a review of the muscles of the upper limb, discussing their innervation by the musculocutaneous, ulnar, median, and radial nerves. The review covers muscles in the arm, forearm, and hand, including those involved in flexion, supination, pronation, and extension. Keywords include muscle innervation and anatomy.

Anatomy 534 Upper Limb Review 70 Review of Muscle Innervation in the Upper Limb Dont data Muscles innervated by the musculocutaneous n.: This nerve supplies the flexor compartment of the arm. These muscles flex the elbow and supinate the forearm. Muscles innervated include: - coracobrachialis - biceps brachii - brachialis flex Ext Anatomy 534 Upper Limb Review 71 Muscles innervated by the ulnar n.: This nerve innervates muscles of the forearm and hand. In the forearm the muscles innervated include: - flexor carpi ulnaris - ulnar (medial) half of flexor digitorum profundus (digits 4,5) In the hand, the muscles innervated include: median - all the intrinsic mm. except for the thenar mm. and the lumbricals of digits 2 & 3 hand Dorsal palmar Anatomy 534 Upper Limb Review 72 Muscles innervated by the median n.: This nerve also innervates muscles of the forearm and hand. In the forearm t.IE the muscles innervated include: medical.ttm'tpuotffndus - mm. of superficial and deep F flexor compartments except 1 fl. carpi ulnaris & ulnar half of the fl. digitorum profundus. These mm. flex and pronate the wrist and flex all five digits. I In the hand the muscles innervated include: 1 - thenar mm. and the lumbricals of digits 2 and 3 I Remember that the aDductor pollicis is innervated by the ulnar n. 31k Dorsal palmar Anatomy 534 Upper Limb Review 73 Muscles innervated by the radial n.: All the muscles importinposterior This nerve supplies muscles in the arm and forearm. In the arm, the muscles of the extensor compartment are innervated. This is the triceps brachii. In the forearm, the muscles of the superficial and deep extensor compartments are innervated. These include the muscle that extend the wrist, joints of the thumb and MP joints of digits 2,3 and 4. The supinator is also located in this compartment. The radial n. also innervates the lateral compartment consisting of one muscle - the brachioradialis. This muscle stabilizes the elbow.
