Five stars doctor For a health care system to make the necessary changes and run efficiently, however, the main stakeholders must decide to work together and must agree on a set of fundamental values. Significance, quality, cost-effectiveness and justice are values understood in the goal of health for all, recognized by all nations and governments, which offers such a basis. The term "Five-Star Doctor" was proposed by the World Health Organization in the 1990s. The objective was to have a global vision for medical education and practice, highlighting the kind of doctors our communities require. Significance: Significance in health care can be defined as the degree to which the most Quality: High-quality health care uses evidence-based data and appropriate technology to deliver complete health care to individuals and populations, taking into account their social, cultural and consumer outlooks. important problems are began first. Cost-effectiveness: The rise in health care costs is due to universally observed phenomena: specialization in health care, which suggests the use of costly procedures; increased access to health services due to sociodemographic changes; increased demand from individual customers as outlooks for a better quality of life result from wider access to informations. Justice: Justice, which is central to a socially responsible health care system, means determined towards making high-quality health care available to all. The central goal of the WHO Global Strategy for Health for All is that all people receive “at least such a level of health that they are capable of working productively and of participating actively in the social life of the community in which they live. The concept of the “five-star doctor” is proposed as an ideal profile of a doctor possessing a mix of aptitudes to carry out the range of services that health settings must deliver to meet the requirements of relevance, quality, cost-effectiveness and equity in health. The five sets of attributes of the “five-star doctor” are summarized. The five-star doctor * Care provider * Decision-maker * Communicator * Community leader * Manager 1. Care Provider: A doctor must have the clinical ability to provide high-quality, full care. This involves a range of abilities, including: Accurate diagnosis Effective treatment Communication skills Patient education 2. Decision Maker: Doctors often face complex situations that require critical decision- making skills, such as: Choosing the right diagnostic tests Arranging patient needs Making ethical choices 3. Communicator: This aspect highlights the importance of effective communication. A doctor should: Listen actively to their patients Communicate diagnosis and treatment options clearly Educate patients and families Cooperate with other healthcare providers 4. Community Leader: Doctors should not be isolated figures. They play essential roles in communities as: Supporters for public health Leaders in health education drives Mediators between healthcare providers and the community 5. Manager: With the difficulties of modern healthcare systems, a doctor also has to be an effective manager. This means: Efficiently using resources Understanding health system dynamics Coordinating with other healthcare professionals Ensuring patient safety and quality of care The Implications of the Five-Star Doctor Model Medical Education: The model suggests a shift from traditional, information-heavy education to competency-based education. The focus is not just on clinical skills but also on developing well- rounded doctors who can meet the broader needs of their communities. Continual Professional Development: Medicine is ever-evolving. Thus, doctors need to continually upgrade their skills in all five areas. Healthcare Systems: Systems need to support and recognize the diverse roles of doctors. This may mean investing in training or re-thinking how healthcare services are delivered. Thank you
