HPPPE Planning Dr. Yahya Alamir BSN, MAP, PhD ,Assistant Professor Public Health, Social & Behavioral Sciences Session 4 Planning We knew that Main elements of HPPM  HP planning models in general, have common elements/steps, although the elements may have different labels. • Planning, • Implementation, and • Evaluation ..…Today Before exploring HP Models we should Know   Planning  What is?  Types  Steps Need assessments (next lecture) Planning Introduction  The overall purpose of systematic planning is to identify    Goals and The most effective means of achieving them. Programs are more likely to be successful  If planning is approached in an inclusive way,  Involving all the major stakeholders.  ‘Stakeholders’ are all those individuals, groups or organizations with an interest in the initiative.  They include those affected by the impact of an initiative and those who are in a position to influence its success. What is ?planning :Planning is  A process of thinking about and then organizing a set of activities necessary for achieving a desired goal.  Involves a series of decisions based on collecting and analyzing a wide range of information and evidence. Data Gathering making Analysis Decision-  Often we operate in an environment of limited resources,  so planning helps us direct those resources to where they are most needed and will have the most impact.  Planning is a process which ends up with a plan A plan should give you answers to three questions: • What am I trying to achieve? • What am I going to do? • How will I know whether I have been successful? ?What am I trying to achieve .1 Concerned with identifying needs and priorities and being clear about specific aims and objectives 2. What am I going to do? Can be broken down into smaller steps:  selecting the best way of achieving aims from a variety of possible ways  identifying the resources you are going to use  setting a clear action plan of who does what and when How will I know whether I .3 ?have been successful  Means that you will need to include plans for evaluation in your overall plan  Evaluation should be an integral part of your overall plan, not tacked in as an afterthought otherwise you will not be able to capture the information you need Types of planning  There are different types of planning such as:  Strategic and master planning;  Program and operational planning;  Financial planning;  Emergency preparedness planning and  Planning for evaluation.  All planning processes result in similar outcomes; They create ‘road maps’ that define  Where you want to go,  How to get there, and  How long the process will take. questions to guide the 4 planning  Where are we now?  Where do we want to go?  How will we get there?  How will we know when we get there? Most Important steps in planning a program o Conducting a needs assessment of a health problem and its related factors and influences, o Prioritizing actions, o Setting aims – what are you intending to achieve? o Setting objectives - precise outcomes; o Deciding which methods or strategies will achieve your objectives (Selecting interventions), o Making decisions to create and develop the program. And o Evaluation Evaluation Road map Need Assessment Health issues Setting Prioritizes Health Issue Setting Aims/Goals Behavioral Issue Setting Objectives Selecting Intervention The Program Behavioral and Environmental Issues Methods and Strategies Thanks Good Luck
