Summary

This presentation details the male genital system, outlining external and internal genitalia components, including the penis, scrotum, testes, epididymis, vas deferens, seminal vesicles, ejaculatory ducts, and prostate. It also examines the structure, function, and layers of the scrotum. The document features a mix of text and diagrams for a comprehensive presentation.

 The genital system of the male is divided into  external genitalia  internal genitalia  external genitalia Penis Scrotum Testis Epididymis Vas Deferens  internal genitalia Seminal Vesicles Ejaculatory Ducts Prostate  Penis  The penis has a fixed root and a body Root of the Penis  The root of the penis is made up of three masses of erectile tissue  bulb of the penis  the right and left crura  The bulb is situated in the midline  Each crus is attached to the side of the pubic arch.  The bulb is continued forward into the body of the penis  The two crura come to lie side by side in the dorsal part of the body  Body of the Penis  The body of the penis is composed of three cylinders of erectile tissue  The erectile tissue is made up of  corpora cavernosa  corpus spongiosum  the corpus spongiosum expands to form the glans penis.  Scrotum  is an outpouching of the lower part of the anterior abdominal wall.  It contains  the testes  the epididymides  the lower ends of the spermatic cords  The wall of the scrotum has the following layers:  Skin.  Superficial fascia:  Spermatic fasciae  Tunica vaginalis  Testis  The testis is a firm, mobile organ  lying within the scrotum.  is surrounded by a tough fibrous capsule, the tunica albuginea.  from the inner surface of the capsule xtending i a series of fibrous septa that divide the interior of the organ into lobules. Lying within each lobule are one to three coiled seminiferous tubules.  Epididymis  is a firm structure lying posterior to the testis.  It has head, a body, and tail inferiorly.  The epididymis is coiled tube nearly 20 ft (6 m) long  A main function of the epididymis is the absorption of fluid.  Another function may be the addition of substances to the seminal fluid to nourish the maturing sperm.  Vas Deferens  is a thick-walled tube about 18 in. (45 cm) long that It arises from the lower end or tail of the epididymis and passes through the inguinal canal.  It emerges from the deep inguinal ring The terminal part of the vas deferens is dilated to form the ampulla of the vas deferens.  The inferior end of the ampulla narrows down and joins the duct of the seminal vesicle to form the ejaculatory duct  Seminal Vesicles  are two lobulated organs about 2 in. (5 cm) long lying on the posterior surface of the bladder  On the medial side of each vesicle lies the terminal part of the vas deferens. Posteriorly, the seminal vesicles are related to the rectum  Inferiorly, each seminal vesicle narrows and joins the vas deferens of the same side to form the ejaculatory duct.  consists of a much-coiled tube embedded in connective tissue.  Ejaculatory Ducts  less than 1 in. (2.5 cm) long formed by the union of the vas deferens and the duct of the seminal vesicle.  pierce the posterior surface of the prostate and open into the prostatic part of the urethra, their function is to drain the seminal fluid into the prostatic urethra.  Prostate  is a fibromuscular glandular organ It is about 1.25 in. (3 cm) long lies between the neck of the bladder above and the urogenital diaphragm below  The prostate is surrounded by a fibrous capsule.  The two ejaculatory ducts pierce the upper part of the posterior surface of the prostate  Function of the Prostate  The prostate produces a thin, milky fluid containing citric acid and acid phosphatase that is added to the seminal fluid at the time of ejaculation.  The prostatic secretion is alkaline and helps neutralize the acidity in the vagina.  Urinary Bladder  The urinary bladder is situated immediately behind the pubic bones  The bladder has a strong muscular wall.  The empty bladder is pyramidal ,having an apex, a base, and a superior and two inferolateral surfaces; it also has a neck.
