STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES SECTION: 300.00 / Regional Operational Procedures Guideline: 304.00 Initial Rapid Intervention Team (IRIT) & Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) (On Deck) Effective Date: 1/21/05 Revision Date: 01/2023 304.00 IRIT – Initial Rapid Intervention & RIT Rapid Intervention Team 304.10 PURPOSE This procedure will define the response, tasks and organization of both the Initial Rapid Intervention Team (IRIT), and the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) (On Deck). 304.20 OBJECTIVE The objective is to immediately react and respond to rescue firefighters. 304.30 POLICY IRIT / RIT (on Deck) will be established anytime firefighters are in an IDLH atmosphere, or command deems it necessary. Initial two-person RIT (on deck) will be assigned at the onset of an incident. If RIT or on deck is deployed, a second RIT team will be established. Standard Exceptions to the IRIT Requirement at Structure Fires 1.     When there is a reported or suspected life hazard where immediate action could prevent the loss of life. 2.     When the fire is in an incipient stage that could be controlled by a portable fire extinguisher. RIT/Rescue Group Functions (On Deck) Monitor tactical radio channel. Retrieve RIT bag and thermal imaging camera (confirm equipment is in ready state) Recon the hot zone (apparatus placement, points of entry, alternate doors and windows) Develop the search and rescue plan
