The Committees of Correspondence were groups appointed by the legislatures of the 13 colonies to aid intercolonial cooperation and to provide leadership on the colonial level 6. Patrick Henry gave his “…give me liberty, or give me death!” speech to express that he wanted independence, and to try and inspire the ones reluctant to fight for it. 7. The main purpose of the Preamble was to act as a starting point and to also say that if they want independence, they need good reasons, which leads into explaining their reasons. The Natural Rights section was to explain and state what should be and are basic human rights that every member of the colonies should have. The List of Grievances were put in the constitution to give reasons as to why they want independence and explain their reasoning more. 8. The 1st “battle” at Lexington resulted in another victory for the British soldiers as they killed 8 colonists that were minutemen and left 10 limping back to safety. After the second blow in Concord however, the colonists had been able to stand their ground and leave victorious, leaving 74 dead British soldiers, and 200 either severely wounded or missing whereas the colonists only had 49 sadly die and 41 wounded. 9. George Washington read Thomas Paine’s The Crisis to help inspire and bring the colonists back on their feet to keep on fighting. 10. After the Battle of Saratoga, Burgoyne’s surrender to the rebels started a turning point in the war, as the colonists had now proven to the world they could fight back against the British and win, with France joining with the U.S. to aid in the fight against Great Britain. Spain also decided to join the war against Great Britain. 11. An ally is (as described in the History Alive! Textbook) “a nation that joins another nation in some common effort, such as fighting a war” 12. The results of the Treaty of Paris of 1783 are as follows; The United States became an independent nation, Great Britain gave up all land claims between the Atlantic Coast and the Mississippi River, from the border of Canada south to Florida, and all property and rights taken from loyalists during the war were returned as agreed by the United States. 13. The after effects of the American Revolution are liberals in Europe being “thrilled at the prospect of creating and founding their own democracies”, France later having a revolution of its own after being inspired by the U.S., South America and the Caribbean would be inspired to revolt or rebel against European rule. Also, have issues for many years about finding the meaning/definition of “liberty and justice for all”.
