# Animal Cell - Cells: the smallest functional and structural unit of all living things, building blocks of life - Organism: any living thing - Unicellular organism: an organism made up of one cell - Multicellular organism: an organism made up of more than one cell - Organelle: a small body in a cell's cytoplasm that has a specific job ## Cell Theory 1. All organisms are made of one or more cells 2. The cell is the basic unit of all organisms 3. All cells come from existing cells ## Difference Between Prokaryotic & Eukaryotic Cell - Prokaryotic is a single-celled organism that does not have a nucleus or membrane-bound organelles and uses flagella to move (DNA in cytoplasm) - Eukaryotic is an organism made up of cells that contains DNA in a nucleus, and membrane-bound organelles # Animal Cell Organelles and Functions 1. Cell membrane: covers the cell and controls what goes in & out of the cell (made of proteins & lipids) - move in & out of the cell - osmosis is a special kind of cell diffusion
