STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES SECTION: 200.00 / Rules & Regulations Guideline: 218.00 Emergency (BL) & Jury Duty Leave Effective Date: Revision Date: 1/2023 218.00 EMERGENCY LEAVE In the event of the death of a member of the employee’s immediate family, up to three (3) days or 1 ½ shifts leave with pay per occurrence may be granted. Immediate family includes spouse, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, step-parents, step-parents-in-law, children, step-children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, step-brother, step-sister. The City Manager may approve others when requested to do so. 218.10 JURY DUTY LEAVE Employees shall be allowed time off from work, with no loss of compensation they would have otherwise earned, to fulfill a summons for Jury Duty. Employees excused from Jury Duty who have at least one-half of the work day remaining when excused by the Court are required to return to work: 8 HOUR DAY – return to work if 4 hours or more are remaining 24 HOUR SHIFT – return to work if 12 hours or more are remaining Should Jury Duty fall within a scheduled vacation or holiday period, that time may be extended by a corresponding number of days. The employee should notify his/her supervisor when this occurs.
