STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES SECTION: 200.00 / Rules & Regulations Guideline: 215.00 Vacation Days Effective Date: Revision Date: 01/2023 215.00 Vacation Guidelines Vacation requests shall be submitted through PACE for approval by the Battalion Chief. Vacations shall be first chosen based on seniority, from the most senior to the least senior. The most that can be chosen on a seniority basis is 1-year accrual (See Vacation Chart- 215.10). Seniority picks will be for full 24-hour shifts. This is the only way seniority will be used to choose vacation time. There will be no bumping after dates have been chosen. Vacation days removed from this list or are not taken, will become spot vacation days, and chosen on a first come basis. If vacation time is to be canceled, personnel shall rescind their Vacation day in PACE. This should be approved by Battalion Chiefs. If vacation time is to be disapproved, the personnel shall be notified as soon as possible after the submittal of the vacation request. The accrual, accumulation, and use of vacation leave shall be in conformance with the City of DeSoto Personnel Policies and Procedures manual and Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code. Vacation must be scheduled to not cause a negative balance. Civil Service employees earn vacation as specified in the Civil Service Law. The maximum accumulation is three times (3x) the annual rate of accrual.
