STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES SECTION: 200.00 / Rules & Regulations Guideline: 214.00 Holidays Effective Date: Revision Date: 01/2023 HOLIDAYS 214.10 Holiday Guidelines The City authorizes 13 Holidays per year. Shift personnel earn 12 hours per authorized holiday, giving shift personnel 6.5 shifts of holidays each calendar year. All six (6.0) shifts will be chosen on a seniority basis, from most senior to the least senior. All six (6.0) shifts must be chosen at the beginning of the year. Personnel can not pick less than six (6.0) full shifts. Requests for holiday changes must be made through the Battalion Chief. The accrual, accumulation, and use of holiday leave shall be in conformance with the City of DeSoto Personnel Policies and Procedures manual and Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code. In accordance with city policy, any holiday time not used by Dec. 31st each year will be forfeited by the employee, unless your shift falls on Dec. 24th or Dec.25th, at which time you will be able to roll over 24 hours of Holiday to be used by January 31st of the following year.
