OVERVIEW  Slips, Trips, and Falls can result in lasting injuries, even death.  These hazards can cause anyone harm within the facility!  Second most common cause of workplace injuries  Cause upwards of 900 workplace deaths, per Diving deper : sLIPS o Slips are a loss of balance caused by a lack of friction between a person’s footwear and the surface you walk or work on. o More likely to occur when you are rushing, wearing the wrong kind of shoes, or not paying attention to the walkway. Diving deper : trips o Occurs when the foot or lower leg strikes or hits an object, which causes a person to lose their balance. o Causes of Trips: o Unmarked steps or ramps o Uncovered hoses, cables, wires, or cords across walking surfaces Diving deper : FALLS o Can result from a slip or a trip when a person’s center of gravity is shifted, and balance is lost. o Split into 2 different categories: o Same level falls – When a person falls to the floor they are standing on or against a nearby object Diving deper : FALLS #2  Causes include: Obstructed views Not using appropriate equipment Not paying attention surroundings  PREVENTING SLIPS, TRIPS, & FALLS  Clean up any spills immediately  Wear shoes with good support and slip resistant soles  Remove trip hazards in walkways, doorways, and stairs  Keep frequently used items in PREVENTING SLIPS, TRIPS, & FALLS #2  Ensure adequate lighting is available  Reduce walking pace when approaching corners, intersections, or walking surface changes  When walking on slippery NEAR MISSES  SIGNIFICANT EMPLOYEE COMMUNICATIONS  ADDRESSING HAZARDS “BEFORE” THEY BECOME INJURIES  OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE SAFETY PRACTICES  PREVENTATIVE MEASURES 1.
