All RVHS Dance Program classes will concentrate on movement practice through an African Diasporic context/curriculum; to serve the population of RVHS. The RVHS Dance courses will utilize inquiry-based learning, real world connection(s), collaboration and critical reflection as a means to embody the Ridgeview Dance Program model and produce successful dance scholars. **[Dance Program Goals:]** - - - - - - - - - - ***The Ridge View High School Dance Company*** ***National Honor Society for Dance Arts*** ***Ufalme African Dance Company*** ***RV Hip Hop*** **The RVHS chapter of NHSDA, Ufalme African Dance Company and RVHH are all housed under the Ridge View High School Dance Company. This company operates as a professional dance company within the Dance program, with the Director of Dance as its spearhead.** **In order for students to be a part of any of the subgroups, they must request or be invited by the Dance Director to be a part of the RVHS Dance Company. All guidelines can be found in the RVHS Dance Company handbook and can be requested from the Dance Director.** ***Grading Policies*** Ridge View High School believes that the **purpose** of grades is to give feedback on content mastery, content understanding, and/or to show progress towards mastery of a skill or specific content. Grades are calculated using a total points system. The points system is divided into two categories: - - - - - These are a minimum number of assignments required every 9 weeks for all classes. - - **[Major Dance Assignments]** - - - - - - - - - All students will start with FULL participation points at the beginning of the semester. Points will be docked *if* student(s) violate policies and procedures. Examples include violating dress code, violating studio etiquette class tardiness, absences, unauthorized cell phone usage, not actively participating in class etc. Points will be adjusted/updated by Friday of each week so that students know their standing for that week. **[Minor Dance Assignments]** - - - - - **[Final Exam(s): Two Part Exam ]** - - **[Performance Tasks]** Dance is a PERFORMANCE ART; therefore, students will complete performance tasks that will be counted as major assessment grades. These performances will include the Giving Bowl, Holiday Arts Festival, Winter Wishes, Hall Flash Mobs and the Spring Dance Concert. Failure to complete performance tasks will results in a grade of 0 and could impact student's overall grade **[Rehearsal Clause ]** There will be ***required/mandatory*** rehearsals and performances outside of school hours, dates are still to be determined, and will be communicated as soon as they are organized by the Dance Director. **[Dance Training ]** Dance requires extensive practice and training in order to be successful in performance. Training WILL include weekly track runs, body weight training, cross fit training and flexibility training. Students must participate in all forms of dance training; there are NO exceptions! **[Content Recovery Policy:]** Content recovery is defined as a course-specific, skill-based learning opportunity for students who are still enrolled in the course with the original teacher of record assigned by the school. Content recovery allows students to retake a subset of the course including a single unit, more than one unit, or supplemental assignments/activities assigned and approved by a certified instructor as needed for student mastery of course content. Students may occasionally feel muscle tenderness due to physical activity, which is very common. Please keep in mind: - [Sick] If a student is sick, they should remain home or ask to go to the nurse who can provide further assistance! [Serious Injury ] In the event a student develops a serious injury; a signed doctor's note with an appropriate letterhead with physician contact information, must be submitted to Dance Director.
