The year of training includes periodic rotation training in different areas of pharmaceutical practices (pharmaceutical manufacturing - drug control and regulation) and the student submits a graduation project in a specialty. The program is designed to allow the graduate to practice the profession of pharmacy in any of the areas of pharmacy work. 2- Pharm D Clinical Pharmacy Program The Clinical Pharmacy Program is a private credit hour program that aims to graduate a clinical pharmacist familiar with all the requirements of the profession and with the latest branches of clinical pharmacy, in order to qualify the graduate to participate effectively in the health care system. What are the main roles of clinical pharmacists? The clinical pharmacist works directly with doctors and other members of the medical team to ensure that the medications prescribed to the patient will have the best impact on the patient’s health. Evaluation of the patient's health problems to determine if the prescribed medications meet the treatment goals. Follow up the effect of drugs on the patient's health. Coordination with physicians and other medical service providers in selecting suitable types of drugs for the patient's needs. Advising the patient on the best way to take the prescribed medications. Supporting the health care team in teaching the patient toward other important steps to maintain health. Postgraduate Education Programs 1-Pharmacy diploma programs This requires a minimum of one-year courses studies Diploma in industrial pharmacy. Diploma in Hospital pharmacy. Diploma in Clinical pharmacy. Diploma in Quality control. Diploma in Cosmetics. Diploma in Medicinal Plants. Diploma in Pharmacology. Diploma in Biochemistry. Diploma in Microbiology. Diploma in Organic Synthesis. 2- Master degree in pharmaceutical sciences This requires a minimum of 2 years including; one-year courses studies and a thesis in the specialized field. 3- Doctor of philosophy in pharmaceutical science (PhD degree ). This requires a minimum of 2 years during which the student should defend his thesis. Departments of Faculty of Pharmacy 1. Pharmaceutics Department Pharmaceutics is concerned with the scientific and technological aspects of the design and manufacture of dosage forms and it encompasses: 1) An understanding of the basic physical chemistry necessary for the design of dosage forms (physical pharmaceutics or physical pharmacy). 2) An understanding of relevant body systems and how drugs arrive there following administration (biopharmaceutics) 3) The manufacture of these medicines on a small (compounding) and large scale (pharmaceutical technology, manufacturing). 4) Product performance testing (dissolution testing, drug release, stability testing). 2. Department of Pharmacognosy Pharmacognosy: science deals with Cultivation, collection, quality control and preservation of medicinal herbs. The botany, studies of active ingredients (phytochemistry), and pharmacological action of the herbs 3.Department of Biochemistry Science deals with the chemistry and the biological importance of chemical agents found in diet or the body 4. Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology Pharmacology is the study of drugs. It involves examining the interactions of chemical substances with living systems, with a view to understanding the properties of drugs and their actions, including the interactions between drug molecules and drug receptors and how these interactions elicit an effect. Toxicology is the study of the adverse effects of chemicals (including drugs) on living systems and the means to prevent or ameliorate such effects. In addition to therapeutic agents, toxicologists examine many environmental agents and chemical compounds that are synthesized by humans or that originate in nature. 5-Department of Medicinal chemistry Medicinal chemistry deals with the discovery, design and development of drug substances along with the pharmacological and analytical characterization 6- Department of Microbiology Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa and all measure used to treat infections. 7- Department of Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy: Clinical pharmacy is science dealing with the drug therapy selection, dosage calculation based on pharmacokinetics parameters, interpretation of laboratory test and physical assessment used to evaluate drug response and adverse effects Study of pharmacy practice and community pharmacy. 8- Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry department Analytical chemistry is the science of obtaining, processing, and communicating information about the composition and structure of matter. In other words, it is the art and science of determining what matter is and how much of it exists. The Analytical Chemistry department is devoted to provide students with information and skills to allow them to identify chemicals and carry out pharmaceutical analysis of drugs in formulations and biological fluids as well as food and water analysis. 9- Pharmaceutical Organic chemistry Organic chemistry is the study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of carbon-containing compounds. Most organic compounds contain carbon and hydrogen, but they may also include any number of other elements (e.g., nitrogen, oxygen, halogens, phosphorus, silicon, sulfur). Pharmaceutical organizations The primary focus of the pharmacist is to promote good pharmaceutical practice. There are several elements to this task such as ensuring and promoting adherence to relevant national and international drug regulations, working with national and international organization, and forming collaborative partnerships with relevant sectors There are many international and national organization that are related to the field of pharmacy International organizations WHO (World Health Organization) It is the organization responsible for health care all over the world. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) It is the organization responsible for the quality of food and drug in the united states of America. United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs It is the organization responsible for regulations concerning the use and abuse of narcotic drugs. B. National Organizations 1- Egyptian drug authority (EDA) Organizing and controlling the quality, efficacy and safety of medical preparations and supplies. Regulating the registration, and control of preparations and raw materials used in the manufacture of medicine. 2- Egyptian Syndicate of the Pharmacists: It is the organization responsible for the pharmacy profession in Egypt and the welfare of enrolled pharmacists. 3. Egyptian Society of Hospital Pharmacists: This society is concerned with all aspects of hospital and clinical pharmacists. 4. Egyptian Pharmaceutical Society: It is concerned with the education of pharmacists. It issues a scientific journal in pharmaceutical sciences. It holds conferences for pharmacists. It is responsible for continuing education. 5- National Pharmacopoeial Committee: Pharmacopoeia is an authoritative book containing information on medicinal drugs The committee is responsible for reviewing the pharmacopeia to cancel or add new drugs.
