Department of Health Education and Promotion Faculty of Public Health and Tropical Medicine Jazan University, KSA Evidence-Based Practice (Health Promotion) 2 Introduction Dr. Yahya Alamir BSN, MAP, PhD ,Assistant Professor Public Health, Social & Behavioral Sciences Contents  Definitions and concepts  EPB  EBM  EBPH  EBHP  Task 1 ?What is EBP  Is an approach to care that integrates the best available research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values. Research Clinical Expertise Practice Patien t Values  It involves translating evidence into practice,  also known as knowledge translation,  and ensuring that ‘stakeholders (health practitioners, patients, family and carers) are  aware of and use research evidence  to inform their health and healthcare decision-making’. Basics of Evidence–Based Practice  Use of Evidence–Based Practice (EBP) resources is an important part of information literacy in health care and health sciences.  EBP requires the integration of the best research evidence with clinical expertise and the patient’s unique values and circumstances. Aims/ Purpose of EBP  To provide the high quality and most cast efficient care possible.  To advance quality of care provided b health worker.  To increase satisfaction among patients.  To focus on professional practice away from habits and tradition to evidence and research.  It results in better patient outcomes.  It keeps practice current and relevant.  It increases confidence is decision making. Evidence based medicine (EBM)  Evidence Based Medicine- includes  Asking clinical questions that can be answered by research,  Finding the best available evidence based on available research,  Judging whether the evidence is accurate and applicable to the patients, and  Applying this evidence in clinical practice. )the general steps of EBP( Evidence Based Public Health (EBPH)  To apply the current best knowledge from research in  the prevention,  detection, and  care of health disorders. Evidence-Based Health Promotion (EBHP)  The use of information derived from formal research and systematic investigation  to identify causes and contributing factors to health needs and  the most effective health promotion actions to address these in given contexts and populations. What are Evidence-based Health ?Promotion Programs  A process of planning, implementing, and evaluating programs adapted from tested models or interventions.  Uses an epidemiologic perspective that focuses on populations rather than individuals.  It emphasizes both prevention and treatment. Health promotion Research and Practice  Well-designed health promotion programs are essential to the health of individuals and communities.  Informed at the intersection of core public health knowledge, the individual trained in this area is uniquely positioned to be an agent for change in communities locally and globally.  In order for health promotion and disease prevention programs and interventions to be effective, they should be based on a body of relevant theory and research.  Unfortunately, many programs are primarily informed by precedent, tradition, or intuition, leading to limited success. Next  Theory, Research and Practice  Our Next Lecture Task 1  Make a group  Name your group  Identify a behavioral issue and tell me why? Thank you ??Questions
