Urine specimen The first urine voided in the morning is preferred because it has a more uniform volume and concentration and a lower pH, which helps preserve the formed elements. If it is not possible to obtain a first morning sample, the time of the sample should be noted on the test  Utilize urine containers that are made of break-resistant plastic instead of glass.  specimens must be analyzed within 2 hours of collection).
