2-1 Slope-Intercept Form Objectives: to write linear equations in two variables using slope-intercept form to represent the relationship between two quantities to interpret the slope and the y-intercept of a linear model Understanding Slope Intercept Form The equation of the graph in slope-intercept form is y = 4 x + 2. 5 What do you notice? Slope-intercept form is y = mx+ b, where m is the slope of the line and b is the y-intercept. The y-intercept is where the line crosses through the y-axis. The x-value of the y-intercept will always be zero. What is the equation of the line in slope- intercept form? What is the equation of the line in slope- intercept form? You try graphing! 3 y= x-5 4 You try graphing! y = -2x + 3 Next challenge, write the equation of a line given two points! What is the equation of a line in slope-intercept form that passes through the points (-1, -2) & (3, 4)? First, what can we find given two points? Now that we have the slope, we can use that and one of the points to find the y-intercept. What is the equation of a line that passes through (0, 1) & (2, 2). Allie has a gift card for a coffee shop (definitely not Starbucks). After 2 coffees, the balance on the card is $19.70, and after 4 coffees, the balance is $13.40. Write an equation that represents the balance on the gift card, and interpret the parts of the equation. 2 IXLs
