He flapped his legs and he flapped his ears. Rabbit was tired of hopping. “Hopping is boring,” he said to Frog. “I want to fly.” “I like hopping,” said Frog. “I can hop so high, it feels like I’m flying.” 2 3  “But I want to fly,” said Rabbit. Rabbit found two big leaves and made some wings. He hopped and hopped as fast as he could. But Rabbit didn’t fly. He landed on his nose. “What are you doing?” said Grasshopper. “I’m trying to fly,” said Rabbit. “I’m tired of hopping.” “I like hopping,” said Grasshopper. “I can hop so fast, it feels like I’m flying.” 4 5  He flapped his wings. He flapped his legs. Along came Hawk. He flapped his ears. But Rabbit didn’t fly. “What are you doing?” said Hawk. He landed on his nose. “I’m trying to fly,” said Rabbit. “Get onto my back,” said Hawk. “I’ll take you flying.” 6 7  Rabbit climbed onto Hawk’s back. Up, up into the sky they went. Rabbit’s ears flapped in the wind. He was flying! Hawk landed on top of a mountain. Rabbit climbed off Hawk’s back. “Stay for lunch,” said Hawk. 8 9  Rabbit hopped and hopped as fast as he could down the mountain. Rabbit did not like the look in Hawk’s eyes. He wished he had not wanted to fly. 10 11  Rabbit met Frog and Grasshopper. “I don’t want to fly any more,” said Rabbit. “Hop with us,” said Frog and Grasshopper.
