TITLE CARD JELYN C. SUNGA Remedios National High School Hello! I’m your guide all throughout this journey of learning. Our lesson is about BASIC CONCEPTS OF COMPUTER and its types and major parts. Let’s GO! BASIC CONCEPTS OF COMPUTER Learning Lesson Objectives: Competency: Define computer; Identify the types of Demonstrate computers; and skills in Identify the parts of a illustrating the computer capabilities H and the ardware limitations of S computer tools oftware Development has been a major quest of people’s lives for quite some time. Technological developments have influenced all sectors of our lives including communication, transportation, health and education. It has caused significant changes to human lives it’s either, positive or a negative change. Computers have revolutionized education and it is leading to the bright future. Using computer at schools brings significant role among students and teachers. Children can now access Global libraries such as online video tutorials, free e-books, and FAQ forums where they can grasp concepts easily. Without the computer, students have to rely on books given in the classroom or in the libraries. And if they don’t understand the material, they only have limited resources in studying. FILL ME IN! Direction: Read the statements below PRE - TEST and fill in the blanks. Choose your answer on the box. _____________1. It is an electronic device used for storing and processing data. _____________2. OF THE LESSON A computer is a machine that can be instructed to carry out sequences of arithmetic or logical operations automatically via computer programming. Modern computers have the ability to follow generalized sets of operations, called programs. These programs enable computers to perform an extremely wide range of tasks. A computer is a device that accepts information (in the form of digitalized data) and manipulates it for some result based on a program, software, or sequence of instructions on how the data is to be processed. WHAT ARE THE MAJOR TYPES OF COMPUTER?. Analog computer - represents data by measurable quantities Desktop computer - a personal computer that fits on a desk and is often used for business or gaming Digital computer - operates with numbers expressed as digits Hybrid computer - combines features of both analog and digital computers Laptop (notebook) - an easily transported computer that is smaller than a briefcase Mainframe (big iron) computer - a centralized computer used for large scale computing Microcomputer - generally referred to as a PC (personal computer). Uses a single integrated semiconductor chip microprocessor. WHAT ARE THE MAJOR TYPES OF COMPUTER? Minicomputer - an antiquated term for a computer that is smaller than a mainframe and larger than a microcomputer. Netbook - a smaller and less powerful version of a laptop Personal computer (PC) - a digital computer designed to be used by one person at a time UNDERSTANDING THE PARTS OF COMPUTER Like our human body, computer has also parts. Come On!.Let’s identify them one by one. As an aspiring computer technician, it is very important to know the different components of a computer system. These are the hardware, software and peopleware. Each component plays an important role, without each other computer systems will not work properly. What is the differen ce An input device sends information to a computer system for processing, and an output device reproduces or displays the results of that processing. Direction: Answer the following on your notebook. Discuss what is a computer? What are the major parts of the computer and its importance to the computer system? Differentiate hardware, software and peopleware? Cite 5 examples of input and output devices. Computers have become a useful part of our everyday lives. The types of computers we use at home or at work are referred to by varied names such as PCs, microcomputers, workstations, laptops and desktops. These computers are most popularly referred to as “personal computers” or PCs, the I fully understand the most common type of computer in the concepts world. Today, an average person uses computer-based assistance several times each day and it becomes an I partially understand the concepts I still don’t understand the concepts DRAW AND LABEL! Direction: Draw and label the different hardware of a computer. After drawing and labeling the hardware components, group them into Input Devices and Output Devices. In order for a computer to function, it requires hardware and software; however, operating this machine requires human beings who are also referred to as peopleware. Without these three components, the world of computer technology would not exist as it does today. Hardware- the physical, touchable, electronic and mechanical parts of a computer system. Software is the set of instructions (also called a program) People ware - Refers to people involved in the data processing operations. INPUT – Keyboard, Scanner, Pen, Mouse and Touch pad OUTPUT – Monitor, Printer, Speaker, Headphone and Projector NOTE: In this activity, the answers of the students may be different according to their understanding. ASSESSMENT CARD NOTE: IN CHECKING THE ASSESSMENT OF THE STUDENTS, THE TEACHER WILL USE THE ATTACHED RUBRIC IN GIVING SCORES TO THE OUTPUT OF THE STUDENTS RUBRICS CRITERIA POINTS SCORE Drawing looks similar to what was observed and/or 15 taught. Drawing includes many details (measurements, 10 shapes, colors, size, etc.) when possible. Drawing is accurately 10 labelled. Drawing has a title that 5 helps explain the content. Drawing includes a written 5 portion (brief statement) that explains what the drawing is intended to show. Drawing is legible and large 5 enough to see all details. TOTAL 50
