EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY (EEO) Mylah Bomediano Labor Code of the Philippines the law governing employment practices and labor relations in the Philippines Preliminary Title enacted on Labor day of 1974 by President Ferdinand Marcos, Book I – Pre-Employment Pescribes the rules for hiring and termination of private Book II – Human Resources employees; the conditions of work including maximum work Development Program hours and overtime; employee benefits such as holiday pay, Book III – Conditions of thirteenth month pay and retirement pay; and the guidelines in Employment the organization and membership in labor unions as well as in Book IV – Health, Safety and collective bargaining. Sec. 2. Declaration of Policies The State shall promote equal opportunities in employment for everyone. To this end, it shall be the policy of the State to: (a) Promote employment of individuals on the basis of their abilities, knowledge, skills and qualifications rather than their age. (b) Prohibit arbitrary age limitations in employment. (c) Promote the right of all employees and workers, regardless of age, to be treated equally in terms of compensation, benefits, promotion, training and other employment opportunities.
