The Influence of Disciples
- Disciples are the salt of the earth, but if they lose their flavor, they are good for nothing.
- Disciples are the light of the world, and they should let their light shine before others.
- They should not hide their good works, but should let them be seen by others.
Fulfilling the Law
- Jesus did not come to destroy the law or the prophets, but to fulfill them.
- The law will not pass away until everything is fulfilled.
- Whoever breaks the least commandments and teaches others to do so will be least in the kingdom of heaven.
- Whoever does and teaches the commandments will be great in the kingdom of heaven.
Righteousness and Anger
- Unless one's righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, they will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
- Being angry with one's brother without a cause can lead to judgment.
- Insulting one's brother can lead to the council, and calling him a fool can lead to hell fire.
Reconciliation and Judgment
- If one remembers that their brother has something against them, they should leave their gift and go reconcile with their brother.
- One should agree with their adversary quickly to avoid being delivered to the judge and being cast into prison.
Adultery and Lust
- Looking at a woman with lust in one's heart is equivalent to committing adultery with her.
- If one's right eye or hand causes them to sin, they should remove it to avoid being cast into hell.
Divorce and Oaths
- Whoever divorces their wife, except for fornication, causes her to commit adultery.
- Whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
- One should not swear oaths, but instead let their communication be simple and truthful.
Retaliation and Love
- One should not resist evil, but instead turn the other cheek and go the extra mile.
- One should give to those who ask and pray for those who persecute them.
- One should love their enemies, bless those who curse them, and do good to those who hate them.
Perfection
- One should strive to be perfect, like their Father in heaven is perfect.
