Despite the commercial goals of using intelligent tutor systems to accomplish tasks taught by teachers, it is still unlikely that teachers will be replaced by machines in the near future.

However, the ambition of many developers of AI is to relieve teachers of a number of tasks (such as monitoring progress or correcting homework assignments), so that they can concentrate on the human aspects of teaching (such as engaging in social activity, interacting empathically with students, and developing personal goals). As AI-based functionality improves, teachers will increasingly be relieved of a number of tasks that are growing in number. Consequently, in order to ensure that teachers continue to play their role in education, key decision-makers need to examine the strategic potential of AI in transforming the role of teachers, and how teachers can prepare themselves for working in educational environments rich in AI.
