Widget Stacking
Widget stacking, also known as nested widgets, is a technique used in data visualization applications like Qualtrics Studio. It involves arranging multiple widgets within a single panel, allowing users to create complex and dynamic dashboards that offer deeper insights into their data.
Examples of Widget Stacking
Side-by-Side Analysis
You can stack widgets to perform side-by-side comparisons. For instance, two rows of identical widgets can be created, with the first row acting as the parent of all subsequent widgets. By selecting a city in the left-hand parent widget, the corresponding widgets on the right change accordingly, enabling comparison across two rows of data.
Co-Occurrence Analysis
Stacking widgets can also be utilized to analyze correlations between topics. A bar chart might represent the top 10 topics, while another bar chart serves as its sibling. When a specific topic is chosen from the parent widget, the sibling widget acts as a filter, revealing the frequency of occurrence for that topic as well as the nine most common topics associated with it.
Side-by-Side Drilling
Another application of widget stacking is for side-by-side drilling. Here, two replicas of the same widget are linked, and the child widget displays the subtopics of the selected parent. Customizing the grouping level within the child widget enables it to showcase the desired depth of detail.
Parent-Child Relationships
When widget A is a parent of widget B, and widget B is a parent of widget C, widget A inherits the role of a parent for widget C. Even if widget B is deleted, widget A retains its position as a parent for widget C.
Circular References
Although circular references can be established, a parent widget cannot simultaneously act as a child of the same widget. Consequently, there must always be a hierarchical structure that prevents loops.
Resolving Mutually Exclusive Selections
If an error occurs due to conflicting selections, users can either use a different report item to resolve the issue or simply remove the current widget's selection to access the full range of options.
