WBMSC Overview

The West Bengal Madrasah Service Commission is responsible for recruiting teachers for the madrasahs, which are Islamic schools providing primary, secondary and higher level education. These institutions follow the madrasah education system, with special emphasis placed on religious studies along with general subjects like English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.

Structure of Madrasah Education System

Madrasah education in West Bengal has its own structure distinct from regular government schooling. In addition to learning basic general study courses, students also receive comprehensive training in Arabic and Persian literature, Quranic teachings, and other relevant aspects of Islamic culture and history. This approach aims to produce well-rounded individuals who have both secular knowledge and strong grounding in their faith.

Recruitment Process for Teachers

To keep up with this unique form of education, the WBMSC was established by the Government of West Bengal, India, through Act No. IV of 1987 to ensure that qualified people were employed in Muslim minority institutions such as Madarsas and Imams Bunglows throughout West Bengal. The commission conducts examinations to select suitable candidates for teaching positions within these institutes.

Syllabi and Curriculum Content

Specifically focused on Islamic studies, the curriculum includes texts pertaining to the life of Prophet Muhammad, Hadith, Tafseer, Aqeeda and Fiqh etc., along with contemporary books regarding modern Islam and the role of Muslims in society. Additionally, there are separate syllabi for three different levels of madrasah education - Primary Level (Grades I-V), Secondary Level (Classes VI-X) and Higher Secondary Level (Class XI+).

Responsibilities of the Commission

The main roles of the WBMSC involve regulating and supervising all matters related to recruitment, appointment, promotion, transfer, and disciplinary action concerning employees under its jurisdiction. It ensures compliance with rules governing recruitment procedures and maintains records of appointments made against sanctioned posts. The commission also plays a crucial part in maintaining proper standards in the functioning of these institutions.
