Water and Ice Rescue
Purpose
- To provide a safe understanding of the needs to complete a safe Underwater or Ice Emergency Response.
Policy
- All members will operate in a safe and efficient manner.
- No unsafe action will jeopardize the safety of members.
Procedure
- Upon confirmation of a victim in the water or on the ice, request a MABAS Underwater Dive Box.
- Upon arriving on the scene, gather information on what happened and where it occurred.
- If the rescue is for a domestic animal/family pet, cease all attempts for rescue post-submersion.
Shift Personnel and Non-Divers
- Wear the Cold Water Survival Suit and mark the last known location of the victim.
- Triangulate the area where the victim was last seen.
- Prepare for the Cold Water Survival Suit Rescue.
- Secure the area for the arrival of the Dive Rescue Team.
Ambulance/Squad
- Assist with triangulation.
- Search the shoreline for evidence of the victim.
- Assist with the Cold Water Survival Suit Rescue.
- Prepare for the victim.
Incident Command
- Obtain information from the first arriving company officer.
- Establish a visible command post.
- Confirm Box alarm request.
