Chapter 2 Warehouse Orders and Warehouse Order Creation Rules

• A warehouse order is a group of warehouse tasks that form a work package for warehouse workers.

Grouping Warehouse Orders

• Warehouse tasks are grouped by activity area.
• The warehouse order creation rule is applied after grouping.
• Activity areas are linked to storage bins using transaction /SCWM/SBST (storage bin sorting).

Number Ranges

• Number ranges for warehouse tasks, waves, warehouse orders, consolidation groups, VAS orders, indirect labor costs, and physical inventory documents are maintained at the warehouse level.
• The number range object /SCWM/WHO maintains warehouse order number ranges.

Warehouse Order Creation Categories

• Warehouse order creation category identifies how warehouse tasks are combined.
• Examples include consolidation group, pick path, pick, pack, and pass (system-driven), load/unload, distributive putaway and physical inventory.
• Using a consolidation group will group all warehouse tasks with the same consolidation group into a warehouse order.

Warehouse Order Creation Rules

• Warehouse order creation rules at the warehouse process type level take precedence over the warehouse order creation rule search sequence.
• If the warehouse process type rule does not meet the criteria, the search sequence rule is used.

Default Warehouse Order Creation Rules

• Warehouse tasks that do not pass the filter’s warehouse order creation rule proceed to the next rule in the sequence.
• If no rules remain in the sequence, the default rule UNDE (undetermined) is assigned.
• DEF is used if no rule is set up for the activity area.

Packing Profile Purpose

• A packing profile creates pick HUs during warehouse order creation.
• The packing mode determines packaging specification and HU type from the packaging material master
• The system calculates the number of pick HUs using data such as weight, volume, capacity and height.

Inbound Sorting Rule

• The inbound sorting rule sorts warehouse tasks within the warehouse order.
• It is applied at the beginning of warehouse order creation.

Cartonization Planning

• The cap compatibility indicator on the warehouse order creation rule enables cartonization planning.
• At least one rule with this indicator selected is required for cartonization planning to work.

Warehouse Order Content

• Warehouse orders include warehouse tasks and physical inventory items.
• Warehouse tasks are for putaway, picking, and internal movements.
• Physical inventory documents are for the physical inventory process.

Executable Work Package

• A warehouse order represents an executable work package in EWM.
• It groups warehouse tasks according to activity area and creation rules such as item filter, sort rules and limit values.

Controlling Warehouse Order Size

• Limit values restrict the size of the warehouse order
• The system creates another warehouse order when values exceed the limit.
• Processing time and items are parameters used to restrict size.

Restricting Work Assignment

• Filter and limit values in the warehouse order creation rule restrict the amount of work assigned.
• Filter values apply at the item or subtotal level.
• Limit values define the size of each warehouse order.

Queue Determination

• Queue determination relies on source and destination activity area parameters extracted from the warehouse process type definition in the warehouse order creation rule activity area.
• Queues are determined based on parameters like source activity area, destination activity area, activity, and bin access type.

Pick HU Creation

• Pick HUs can be created using a simple algorithm, a complex algorithm, or Business Add-ins (BAdIs).
• The simple algorithm uses one packaging material.
• The complex algorithm uses multiple packaging materials to determine the optimum pick HUs.
• BAdIs enable pick HU creation based on custom logic.
