Visualization Styles: Prophantasia vs. Traditional Phantasia

Traditional Phantasia: The most common form of visualization. Visualizations occur "in the mind," independent of eye state (open or closed). A blind person can visualize. The image isn't affected by eye movements. Closing eyes doesn't impact visualization capability but may affect focus. Visualizations are separate from the visual input to the eyes.

Prophantasia: A rarer form of visualization. Visualizations are "projected" into the field of view. They occupy the same space as real-world vision. Visualizations track with eye movements, behaving like a heads-up display. Visualizations are in front of the eyes, not behind them. Closing eyes enhances the visualizations, because they aren't competing with actual sight.
