Vishwa Bank has its roots in the Eastern India Chamber of Commerce & Industry Limited (EICCI), which was established on August 7, 1919. It started with just three members - Mr. R.N. Mukherjee, Mr. Bikram Dutta, and Mr. K.C. Roy Choudhury. Over four decades later, EICCI had grown into one of the most influential chambers of commerce in the eastern region, serving the industrial sector by providing a platform for discussions and debates among economic experts on issues related to trade, industry, and commerce.
In 1962, EICCI decided to establish a new banking entity under the name 'Vishwa Bank'. The bank was established on January 28, 1963, and was inaugurated by the then Governor of Calcutta, Sri B.C. Roy, on March 27, 1963.
