Study Notes

vHIT Set-Up

  • Connect goggles to the computer before launching OTOsuiteV.
  • Enter patient data: Last Name, First Name, Gender, Birthdate, and save.
  • Confirm recording status; restart the program if necessary.
  • Replace foam cushion weekly or when stained; clean glasses with a microfiber cloth.
  • Position the patient 3 feet from the wall with adequate light.
  • Ensure goggles fit snugly; position the strap behind the ears, keeping hair tucked away. Center the dot on the wall at eye level.

Running vHIT

  • Select "Collect" in the Workflow Panel; direct patient to look straight ahead.
  • Center the green box on the pupil; adjust settings to ensure the pupil appears white.
  • Address eyelash interference by either physically opening the eye wider or using an eyelash curler.
  • On centering the head and ROI, proceed to the calibration tab.
  • Activate the red laser and instruct the patient to align it with the wall dot without moving their head.
  • Click "Run" to calibrate; ensure horizontal alignment of laser dots.
  • Conduct a head check: gently move the patient's head left and right for 10 seconds.
  • Provide test instructions, emphasizing head stability and minimizing blinking.
  • Initiate head movement rapidly to elicit a high-pitched acceptance sound for successful tests; aim for 20 accepted tests per direction.
  • Transition to the LARP test, aligning the patient’s head and centering the pupil.
  • Maintain head position at a 45-degree angle and configure eye settings as necessary.
  • Grip the patient's head securely, moving it quickly as needed to complete LA and RP testing; target 20 accepted tests in both directions.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Analyze rejection reasons: check movement speed, head stability, and whether the goggle strap was touched.
  • Monitor pupil display cleanliness and adjust eyelid positioning if necessary.
  • Instruct the patient on proper eye-opening techniques during head movements.

Finishing the Test

  • Remove goggles and store them appropriately; the test saves automatically.
  • Access the patient’s vHIT profile, select "Report," and save to the Norcal Brain Center drive using the format: “First name Last name VHIT Test date.”
  • Upload the report to the patient's Jane system and delete from the drive afterward.

vHIT Set-Up

  • Connect goggles to the computer prior to launching the OTOsuiteV program.
  • Create a new patient entry by inputting Last Name, First Name, Gender, and Birthdate, then save the profile.
  • Confirm the goggles are recording; if not, restart the program.
  • Replace foam cushion weekly or if visibly dirty to maintain hygiene.
  • Clean goggles using a microfiber cloth to ensure clear visibility.
  • Position the patient approximately 3 feet from the wall, ensuring the lamp is turned on and fully illuminated.
  • Secure goggles on the patient's head, tucking hair behind ears, and adjust for proper centering and eye level alignment with the wall dot.

Running vHIT

  • Begin data collection by selecting “Collect” in the Workflow Panel.
  • Ensure the patient is looking straight ahead, centering the tracking box over the pupil as necessary.
  • The pupil's color should appear white; adjust with plus or minus signs if needed.
  • Address issues with eyelash obstruction by widening the right eye or using an eyelash curler.
  • Ensure head is centered and the region of interest (ROI) is aligned with the pupil before moving to calibration.
  • Activate the red laser for calibration, instructing the patient to align it with the wall dot while keeping their head straight.
  • Conduct head checks by moving the patient's head left and right for 10 seconds after calibration.
  • Provide clear instructions to the patient to minimize blinking and communicate needs during the test.
  • Execute quick head movements (~10 degrees) to complete the tests, striving for 20 accepted head moves in both left and right directions.
  • Transition to LARP by aligning the laser with the wall dot prior to beginning further assessments.
  • Position the patient's head at a 45-degree angle to the right for continued testing.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Assess testing rejects by reviewing technique, speed of movement, head stability, and whether the goggle strap is being touched.
  • Ensure the patient’s pupil display is clean and adjust as needed if issues arise during head movements.
  • Instruct patients to keep their eyes open throughout to avoid closing during head turns.

Finishing the Test

  • Once testing concludes, remove goggles and place them on the designated holder; data saves automatically.
  • Access the patient’s vHIT profile, select “Report” to save the testing report in a specific format (First Name Last Name vHIT Test Date) to the Norcal Brain Center drive.
  • Upload the report to the patient's Jane account, and remember to delete it from the drive post-upload.
