- Rules in Section II apply when specified in Rule 11.
Rule 12 for Approaching Sailing Vessels
- The general rule is that when two sailing vessels are approaching, one of them should keep out of the way of the other.
- If each vessel has the wind on a different side, they should keep to the right of each other.
- If both vessels have the wind on the same side, the vessel to windward should keep out of the way of the vessel to leeward.
- If a sailing vessel with the wind on the port side sees another vessel to windward and cannot determine which side the wind is on for the other vessel, it should keep out of the way of the other vessel.
