Arteries
- Aorta artery: The largest artery in the body; carries oxygen-rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body.
- Common carotid artery: Supplies blood to the head and neck; branches into internal and external carotid arteries.
- Brachiocephalic artery: Branches off the aorta; supplies blood to the right arm and the head and neck.
- Subclavian artery: Supplies blood to the arms; arises from the aorta on the left side and from the brachiocephalic trunk on the right.
- Axillary artery: Continuation of the subclavian artery in the armpit area; supplies blood to the upper limb.
- Brachial artery: Main artery of the arm; continuation of the axillary artery, it bifurcates into radial and ulnar arteries.
- Radial artery: Supplies blood to the lateral aspect of the forearm and hand; commonly used for pulse checks.
- Ulnar artery: Supplies blood to the medial aspect of the forearm and hand; partnered with the radial artery.
- Abdominal artery: Refers to the abdominal aorta; supplies blood to the abdominal organs.
- Renal artery: Branches off the abdominal aorta; supplies blood to the kidneys.
- Common iliac artery: Branches from the abdominal aorta; supplies blood to the pelvis and lower limbs.
- Iliac artery: Supply blood to the pelvic region and legs; includes internal and external iliac arteries.
- Deep femoral artery: Supplies blood to the deeper structures of the thigh; branches off the femoral artery.
- Popliteal artery: Located behind the knee; branches into anterior and posterior tibial arteries.
- Tibial artery: Comprises both anterior and posterior tibial arteries; supply blood to the lower leg and foot.
Veins
- Internal jugular vein: Drains blood from the brain; accompanied by the carotid artery.
- Subclavian vein: Drains blood from the arms; combines with the internal jugular to form the brachiocephalic vein.
- Brachiocephalic vein: Formed from the union of subclavian and internal jugular veins; drains blood towards the superior vena cava.
- Vena cava vein: Includes superior and inferior vena cava; largest veins, returning deoxygenated blood to the heart.
- Axillary vein: Drains blood from the upper limb; becomes the subclavian vein as it ascends.
- Cephalic vein: Superficial vein of the arm; commonly used for venipuncture.
- Basilic vein: Another superficial vein in the arm; runs along the inner side and is larger than the cephalic vein.
- Brachial vein: Pairs with the brachial artery; drains blood from the arm.
- Median cubital vein: Located in the elbow area; frequently used for blood draws.
- Renal vein: Drains deoxygenated blood from the kidneys; empties into the inferior vena cava.
- Common iliac vein: Collects blood from the pelvis and lower limbs; forms from internal and external iliac veins.
- Iliac vein: Drains blood from the pelvis and legs; includes both internal and external components.
- Femoral vein: Main vein of the thigh; receives blood from deep structures including the popliteal vein.
- Popliteal vein: Located at the back of the knee; formed by the convergence of the anterior and posterior tibial veins.
- Great saphenous vein: Longest vein in the body; runs along the length of the leg and is commonly used for grafts.
