    Study Notes

    Hypospadias

    • Opening of urethra on inferior surface of penis
    • Due to failure of urethral folds to close

    Epispadias

    • Opening of urethra on superior surface of penis
    • Caused by abnormal positioning of genital tubercle
    • Often associated with bladder exstrophy

    Condylomata acuminata

    • Benign, warty growths on genital skin
    • Caused by HPV types 6 or 11
    • Characterized by koilocytic changes

    Lymphogranuloma venereum

    • Necrotizing granulomatous inflammation of inguinal lymphatics and lymph nodes
    • Sexually transmitted infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis (serotypes L1-L3)
    • Can lead to rectal stricture if perianal involvement occurs

    Squamous cell carcinoma

    • Malignant growth of squamous cells in penile skin

    • Risk factors include high-risk HPV (in 2/3 of cases) and lack of circumcision (foreskin irritation)

    • Precursor lesions include Bowen disease (leukoplakia presentation), erythroplasia of Queyrat (erythroplakia presentation), and Bowenoid papulosis (multiple reddish papules)

    • Bowenoid papulosis often seen in younger patients (40s), compared to Bowen's disease and erythroplasia of Queyrat

    • Bowenoid papulosis does not progress to invasive cancer.
